How to Use International GPA Converter

Choose Your Transformation Mode

Select between Country Mode (for standard international transformations) or Custom Scale Mode (for user-defined grading systems). Country Mode automatically detects grading systems based on country selection, while Custom Scale Mode allows you to choose from 17 predefined systems or create your own custom scale with specific minimum and maximum values.

Select Source and Target Countries or Systems

In Country Mode, choose your source and target countries. The tool automatically detects the grading system used in each country. If a country uses multiple systems, you can select your preferred system from the dropdown. In Custom Scale Mode, select your source and target grading systems directly from the available options or define custom scales.

Enter Your Academic Mark

Type your academic mark in the input field. The tool accepts both numeric marks (e.g., 3.7, 8.5, 18.0) and letter evaluations (e.g., A+, B, HD, First Class) depending on the selected system. Format hints and example marks are shown below the input to guide you.

View Transformation Result

The transformation happens automatically as you type. The result shows your transformed mark in the target system, along with a confidence meter indicating transformation accuracy. You can copy the result to your clipboard with one click.

Common Calculations & Examples

Example 1: US GPA to Indian CGPA Equivalency

Problem: Find the Indian 10-point scale equivalent of a US GPA of 3.7

Steps:

  1. Select "United States" as the source country
  2. Select "India" as the target country
  3. Enter "3.7" in the input field
  4. View the transformed result (approximately 9.3 on 10-point scale)
Result: 9.3

Explanation: A GPA of 3.7 in the US system corresponds to approximately 9.3 on the Indian 10-point scale. This transformation uses the universal scale method, mapping first to a 0-100 scale (3.7 ร— 25 = 92.5%) and then to the target system (92.5% รท 10 = 9.25, rounded to 9.3).

Example 2: French Academic Mark to US GPA Mapping

Problem: Determine the US GPA equivalent of a French academic mark of 16.5 out of 20

Steps:

  1. Select "France" as the source country
  2. Select "United States" as the target country
  3. Enter "16.5" in the input field
  4. View the transformed result (approximately 3.3 GPA)
Result: 3.3

Explanation: A mark of 16.5 out of 20 in the French system represents 82.5%, which translates to approximately 3.3 on the US 4.0 GPA scale. This is considered a B+ evaluation.

Example 3: German Academic Score to UK Classification

Problem: Find the UK degree classification for a German academic score of 1.5

Steps:

  1. Select "Germany" as the source country
  2. Select "United Kingdom" as the target country
  3. Enter "1.5" in the input field
  4. View the transformed result (First Class Honours)
Result: First Class

Explanation: A German score of 1.5 is an excellent mark (remember, 1.0 is best in the German system). This translates to First Class Honours in the UK system, which typically requires 70% or above.

Example 4: Australian Letter Evaluation to US GPA

Problem: Determine the US GPA equivalent of an Australian "HD" (High Distinction) evaluation

Steps:

  1. Select "Australia" as the source country
  2. Select "United States" as the target country
  3. Enter "HD" in the input field
  4. View the transformed result (approximately 3.6 GPA)
Result: 3.6

Explanation: HD (High Distinction) in the Australian system maps to 90% on the universal scale. This translates to approximately 3.6 on the US 4.0 GPA scale (90% รท 25 = 3.6), representing excellent academic performance.

Example 5: Custom Scale Transformation

Problem: Transform a mark from a custom 0-10 scale to the standard 4.0 GPA system

Steps:

  1. Switch to Custom Scale Mode
  2. Select "Custom Scale" for the source system and define a 0-10 range
  3. Select "4.0 GPA" as the target system
  4. Enter "7.5" (representing 75% on the custom scale)
  5. View the transformed result (approximately 3.0 GPA)
Result: 3.0

Explanation: Custom scales allow you to work with institution-specific or non-standard grading systems. A mark of 7.5 on a 0-10 scale represents 75% performance, which translates to approximately 3.0 on the 4.0 GPA scale.
